Creating a Mermaid Fairytale Photoshoot in a Backyard Kiddie Pool

This mermaid-inspired fantasy shoot was created in a backyard kiddie pool during a freezing Canadian “spring” day in St. Catharines — and that’s exactly why I love it so much. With warm water, moss, shells, handmade styling pieces, and a little bit of creative chaos, we turned a simple backyard into an entire fairytale world. This shoot became such a reminder that creativity does not need massive budgets, perfect weather, or expensive studios to feel magical. Sometimes the best ideas happen when you stop waiting for perfect and just start creating.
